About CBD

What is CBD?

CBD, short for Cannabidiol, is one of over 100 cannabinoids found naturally in the hemp and cannabis plant. CBD is the second-most abundant cannabinoid and is not psychoactive like THC. This means there are no psychological effects or “high”.

ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM

All mammals have an EndoCannabinoid System (ECS). This system is made up of cell receptors called Cannabinoid Receptors (CR) and numerous naturally produced binding molecules known as endocannabinoids. Most endocannabinoids bind to two types of receptors, CB1 and CB2, and inhibit the release of neurotransmitters. However, CBD does not directly trigger either receptor, but instead modifies the receptors’ ability to bind to cannabinoids. The ECS helps regulate a variety of bodily functions including relaxation, sleep, appetite, inflammatory immune response, and cognitive function.

CB1 Receptors affect coordination & movement, emotions & mood, thinking, appetite, and memories. Located in the brain, lungs, vascular system, muscles, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive organs, immune system, liver, bone marrow, pancreas.

CB2 Receptors affect inflammation and pain. Located in the spleen, bones, skin, immune system, liver, bone marrow, pancreas.
